Exciting New Venture: The Wheel of Time Video Game Takes Shape

04/22/2025

An ambitious project to create a video game based on Robert Jordan's epic "The Wheel of Time" series is underway at iwot Studios' new gaming division. This AAA open-world RPG will be entirely developed in-house by the talented team at iwot games, led by industry veteran Craig Alexander, previously with Warner Bros. Games. Anticipated to take around three years to complete, the game aims for release on both PC and consoles. Building upon the global success of Amazon Prime Video’s TV adaptation, now in its third season, this endeavor seeks to expand the universe into interactive entertainment. Positioned in Montreal, a burgeoning hub for game development, the studio plans to integrate this project into their multi-platform strategy, enhancing the franchise across various media.

The initiative marks a significant milestone as iwot Studios, originally Red Eagle Entertainment, secured rights to Jordan’s works in 2004. Currently, they are producing multiple projects within the "Wheel of Time" universe, including the ongoing TV series, an action feature film titled "Age of Legends," directed by Kari Skogland, and a 3D animated feature in collaboration with Squeeze Animation Studios. iwot Studios CEO Rick Selvage emphasizes the importance of continuity across different platforms, ensuring a cohesive transmedia strategy that spans the video game, TV series, and upcoming films.

Selvage envisions the game as a comprehensive exploration of the "Wheel of Time" world, encompassing all elements from the books and beyond. With over 2,750 named characters and extensive lore, the universe offers vast opportunities for creative expansion. As the game builds out the world, it will not be confined to specific areas or eras but will embrace the entirety of the "Wheel of Time" universe. Additionally, assets and marketing opportunities from the "Age of Legends" film will enhance fan engagement and integration.

Craig Alexander highlights the challenge and excitement of adapting such a legendary mythology into an open-world RPG. Known for his work on hit titles like "The Lord of the Rings Online" and "Dungeons & Dragons Online," Alexander brings a wealth of experience to the project. Montreal's vibrant creative environment supports his vision of building a world-class team capable of honoring this beloved world. He is actively assembling a leadership team specializing in design, technology, and art, welcoming prospective candidates to join this exciting venture.

This groundbreaking project promises to deliver an immersive experience, expanding the rich tapestry of the "Wheel of Time" universe through interactive storytelling. Fans can look forward to a game that captures the essence of the books while offering new adventures and explorations, enriching the overall franchise experience across multiple platforms.
