A New Dawn for Ukrainian Developers: Reburn Unveils Futuristic Sci-Fi Shooter La Quimera

Ukrainian developers have embarked on a new chapter with the rebranding of their studio. Previously known for their post-apocalyptic Metro series, the team has now adopted the name Reburn. This transformation marks a significant departure from their previous work, venturing into uncharted territories with an original sci-fi shooter titled La Quimera. Set in a fictional Latin American metropolis surrounded by dense jungles, this game offers players a fresh narrative perspective through the eyes of a private military company equipped with cutting-edge technology. The new setting not only provides a rich backdrop for storytelling but also introduces innovative gameplay elements such as exoskeletons and advanced weaponry.

The collaboration between filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn, writer E.J.A. Warren, and the Reburn team has resulted in a thought-provoking exploration of dystopian futures. Unlike the Metro series, which delved into the aftermath of a nuclear catastrophe, La Quimera challenges players to consider how modern advancements can lead to societal changes. Oleksandr Kostiuk, a key figure at Reburn, highlights the shift in focus: “We wanted to explore how a world built on current foundations could evolve into a dystopia. Does technological progress alone ensure societal progress?” This new direction aims to provoke introspection among players about the potential future consequences of today’s decisions. Moreover, the game supports both single-player and cooperative play, offering diverse experiences that cater to different gaming preferences.

The rebranding to Reburn signifies more than just a name change; it represents a rebirth and a commitment to creating unique intellectual properties. CEO Dmytro Lymar explains that the decision was partly driven by the need to avoid confusion between two separate entities previously sharing the 4A Games name. With over 110 developers, including veterans from the Metro series, Reburn is poised to deliver high-quality games that reflect their core values. While La Quimera is being self-published, the studio remains open to partnerships with publishers. Ultimately, Reburn's journey reflects a dedication to innovation and a desire to push the boundaries of what video games can achieve, inviting players to question and reimagine the future.
