Overwatch 2 Welcomes Back Loot Boxes in Season 15
In an exciting announcement, Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed the return of Loot Boxes to Overwatch 2. This iconic feature, which was part of the original game, will make its comeback in Season 15, set to commence next week. Players can look forward to earning these rewards through various challenges and battle passes. The new Loot Box system promises a balanced distribution of items, ensuring players receive at least one Rare item per box and a Legendary cosmetic item in every Legendary Loot Box. While some regions may face restrictions due to local laws, this reintroduction marks a significant change in the game's reward structure.
Revival of Loot Boxes in Overwatch 2: What You Need to Know
In the upcoming season, Overwatch 2 players will once again experience the thrill of opening Loot Boxes. These virtual treasure chests will be available starting with Season 15, which launches next week. Participants can earn Loot Boxes by completing weekly and event challenges. The free Battle Pass will grant access to one Legendary Loot Box, while those opting for the Premium version can earn two additional Legendary Loot Boxes.
Each regular Loot Box will contain at least one Rare item, and within five consecutive openings, players are guaranteed an Epic item. Furthermore, every twentieth box will yield a Legendary item, along with a guaranteed Legendary cosmetic item in each Legendary Loot Box. Each Loot Box will provide four items, but seasonal and crossover cosmetics will not appear. Unused Loot Boxes at the end of a season will be automatically opened.
The reintroduction of Loot Boxes comes after their removal during the transition to Overwatch 2 and the Battle Pass model in October 2022. Initially, Loot Boxes will not be purchasable with real-world currency from the Overwatch 2 Shop. However, Blizzard must navigate regional legal challenges where Loot Boxes have been banned.
More details on how the returning Loot Boxes function will be revealed in the Season 15 launch blog post next week. Fans eagerly await further insights into this dynamic addition to the game.
From a player's perspective, the return of Loot Boxes adds an element of surprise and excitement to Overwatch 2. It offers a nostalgic touch for long-time fans while introducing a fresh incentive for newcomers. However, it also raises questions about the balance between earned rewards and potential pay-to-win dynamics. Overall, this move signifies Blizzard's commitment to enhancing the player experience and adapting to community feedback.
