Video Game History Foundation Unveils Extensive Digital Library to Public

The Video Game History Foundation (VGHF) has officially launched its digital library, granting public access to an impressive collection of video game-related materials. This milestone follows a promise made just last week. Despite some initial technical challenges due to high demand, the library offers a vast array of curated files and out-of-print magazines, providing valuable resources for enthusiasts and researchers alike. The early version already includes over 30,000 files and more than 1,500 searchable magazines, with plans to expand further.

The foundation's digital library boasts several notable features that highlight its commitment to preserving gaming history. Among the standout additions are guidebooks and memorabilia from significant gaming events spanning the first 12 years of E3. An international collection of promotional materials from FromSoftware, endorsed by the company itself, also forms part of this treasure trove. Additionally, the archive houses 100 CD-ROMs containing artwork and press releases from GamePro magazine, along with over 100 hours of footage documenting the creation of the Myst series. Another remarkable inclusion is the 'Mark Flitman papers,' a collection of documents accumulated during Flitman's tenure at various gaming giants such as Konami, Acclaim, and Atari.

Established in 2017 by Frank Cifaldi, a renowned game preservationist and historian, the VGHF has dedicated years to collecting, cataloging, and digitizing materials related to video game history. The non-profit organization relies on donations to build its extensive archives. Through these efforts, it aims to create a comprehensive repository for research and education.
