Songs Of Silence: A Hidden Gem in the Strategy Game World
Uncover the Hidden Strategy Game That Will Mesmerize You
Game Setting and Modes
Situated in a fantasy world where two ancient human races have waged a long battle, splitting the world in two. You can choose to engage in skirmish maps or embark on a narrative singleplayer campaign. In both, the objective remains the same: take and hold settlements on the strategic map to accumulate resources for upgrades and new units.
The hero units lead the armies, each with unique abilities and the potential to level up. The armies themselves consist of a diverse range of fantasy units, from cheap infantry to massive behemoths.
Unique Features and Gameplay
Unlike traditional strategy games, Songs of Silence does away with some of the more cumbersome aspects. Diplomacy is gone as it's considered boring, and trade is reduced to a simple tick-box. What remains is the essence of Creative Assembly's series - the strategic maneuvering of armies on a map that's just large enough to keep things interesting.
When battles start, it becomes an auto battler. You build the armies, decide their composition, and arrange them, but then each unit acts on its own. The only direct input is through playing cards, which are crucial as they are the lifeblood of the game. On the battlefield, leaders have their own decks of special ability cards. As you progress and level up your generals, you earn more and better cards, enabling a wide range of influences on the battle.
Cards can also be played on the strategic map, replacing complex interfaces with a simple and satisfying action. Buffing armies or building structures becomes a seamless part of the gameplay.
The Pace and Visuals
The pace of the game is intoxicating. You smoothly move from one task to the next, never pausing. Management is brief, and battles are short, creating a unique experience in a genre usually focused on long battles.
The visuals of the game are stunning. From the splash art to the character design, every detail is wonderful. The animations of the armies and the sensory thrill of playing a card add to the overall appeal. It stands out in a sea of generic strategic games, with a unique look and a well-told story.
I can't believe how long this game flew under my radar. But now that I've found it, it's become one of the most refreshing strategy games I've played in a long time. It's an unexpected artistic triumph that has kept me glued to the screen all week.
