Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: A Major Upgrade to Streaming
Unlock the Freedom of Streaming Your Own Games with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
Expanding Streaming Options
The selection of games available for streaming at the start will be limited, but it's a great start. A Game Pass Ultimate subscription and a controller will be required to make this happen. This allows players to start streaming their games to devices such as smartphones, PCs, and Amazon Fire Stick. It's a convenient way to access your game library wherever you are.
Xbox has released a new trailer to showcase how this new feature works. In the video, we can see Game Pass Ultimate subscribers effortlessly accessing their games on various compatible devices. This gives players the freedom to enjoy their favorite games on different platforms, enhancing their gaming experience.
Initial Game Selection
Unfortunately, not all games will support this feature from the very beginning. Xbox has kicked things off with a selection of 50 titles that can be streamed as long as the player owns the game. Some of these notable titles include Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Balatro, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, Final Fantasy XIV Online, Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat 1, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and Star Wars Outlaws. It seems that Xbox focused on enabling the feature for high-profile games rather than older options. However, the company has promised that the list will grow over time, and it will be exciting to see which additional titles are supported.
For PC users, select streamed games will support mouse and keyboard support. This provides a different gaming experience and allows for more precise control. Unfortunately, none of these games currently offer touch controls, so if you want to play on your mobile device, you'll need to connect a controller. This could change in the future, as many Game Pass Ultimate games offer touch controls, but that option is lost once the game is removed from the service. Xbox should consider allowing Game Pass Ultimate users on mobile to continue using this option if they purchase the game. This would enhance the mobile gaming experience and provide more value to subscribers.
Microsoft's Strategy
Over the past few years, Microsoft has been promoting the idea that anything that can play Xbox games should be considered an Xbox. Building out cloud streaming has become a key part of the company's strategy to get more people playing its games and potentially subscribing to Game Pass. It remains to be seen whether this strategy will be successful, but it's clear that it is expanding the options available to existing Game Pass subscribers. This is definitely a positive development, and the service is getting better as a result.
